Toni Hickman

Inspired & Able

Many artists have a message they hope to get across; a connection they seek to make with their audience.  For several years now, Toni Hickman has not only been connecting with people but educating them in attempt to help save lives. In 2004 Toni had a bright and budding career as a rapper. She had buzz from top magazines, the backing of a record label, appearances on gold and platinum albums . . . and later that year she also had a brain aneurysm. In 2007 she would suffer from another aneurysm, and a stroke during surgery. Today, she is not only an artist but an advocate for healthy living, a positive public speaker and (most recently) an author.

With her organization Inspired and Able, Toni appears regularly at community events as a motivational speaker “to people with disabilities, as well as those who may have a lack of confidence” says Toni. This year Toni was a panelist at the Texas Black Expo, lead a workshop at the Hair Pandeminc event at the University of Houston, and was honored at an event held at the Taylor-Stevenson ranch hosted by the Shape Community Center of Third Ward in Houston. She spoke at a Michael Jackson charity tribute event and will be a panelist at The Ladies Roundtable event in Dallas. Her book, Chemical Suicide/Death By Association, is a compilation of eye-opening facts about the harsh chemicals used in beauty products. Toni researched the subject after doctors told her to stay away from things she had used regularly in the past while recovering from brain surgery. The book even includes natural recipes to be used as alternatives to the chemical laden products. Toni is truly inspiring as she calls us all to healthy action, to make conscious decisions about our everyday lives for our health’s sake.
